What PCO car hire costs
What renting a private hire car costs, from the weekly rent to collection day. The prices come from the cars on Kharo, which show what rental companies charge.
Weekly rent
Rent starts at £100 a week. The car in the middle of the range is £185. It depends on the car, its age and the city.
- Hybrid From £125 a week. Middle of the range £180 a week.
- Electric From £133 a week. Middle of the range £211 a week.
- Seven seats From £190 a week. Middle of the range £220 a week.
- Executive From £230 a week. Middle of the range £268 a week.
The deposit
The deposit is two and a half weeks' rent, held by Kharo, not the operator. You get it all back if there is no new damage.
What you pay to collect the car
You pay the deposit and the first month's rent. For a car at £185 a week, that is £460 plus £802, so £1,262 in total. You pay rent monthly through Kharo, taken two weeks before each month is due.
Insurance
Insurance is not in the rent. You choose comprehensive cover when you apply and see the quote before you pay anything. The price depends on your age, where you live, your driving record and the car.
Other costs to plan for
- Fuel or charging You pay for your own fuel or charging.
- The app's share Uber and Bolt keep part of each fare.
- Your licence TfL and councils charge a fee to get and renew your driver licence.
- Fines No admin fee on fines. The rental company asks the council to put any PCN (a parking, bus lane or congestion fine) in your name. You pay only the fine.
What Kharo charges drivers
Nothing. Drivers never pay Kharo. The rental company pays Kharo a service charge out of the rent.
