PCO car hire, with every cost shown up front

PCO car hire means renting a car licensed for private hire, so you can drive for Uber, Bolt and other apps. On Kharo you see the rent, deposit and insurance before you apply.

What PCO car hire is

A PCO car has a private hire vehicle licence. In London it comes from Transport for London (TfL), and outside London from the local council. The name comes from the Public Carriage Office, which used to license these cars in London. The rental company keeps the car licensed, serviced and on the road. You pay a weekly rent and drive it for work.

What you pay

  • Weekly rent From £100 a week. The car in the middle of the range is £185.
  • Deposit The deposit is two and a half weeks' rent, held by Kharo, not the operator. You get it all back if there is no new damage.
  • Insurance Comprehensive cover, quoted on every car, priced before you apply.
  • Fines No admin fee. You pay the council the fine, and nothing more.

What you need

  • A private hire driver licence from TfL or your council
  • A full driving licence
  • The right to work in the UK
  • A bank account, so we can check you can afford the rent

Check these before you hire a PCO car

  • The car's private hire licence is in date, and the plate matches the car
  • The insurance covers hire and reward (carrying passengers for money)
  • You have the deposit terms in writing, including when it comes back
  • You know who pays for servicing, repairs and tyres
  • There is no admin fee added to parking or congestion fines
  • You know any mileage limit, and what each extra mile costs
